Media Mill

Media Mill, a multimedia archiving and distribution tool, provides you with the ability to store your full-resolution video projects, without any quality loss, and without a limit on how much content you can add. You can make use of Media Mill's fine-tuned compression presets and high-speed servers to create compressed copies of your video to share with the world. You don't have to worry about finding somewhere to host the video, because the "Media Mill" provides you with a link to your content that you can share with anyone.

Eligibility

University faculty, staff, and students

What We Do

  • Provide a server for uploading and storing your video footage.
  • Provide a web-based interface compatible with Macs, Windows, and Linux.
  • Convert videos into Internet-friendly, streaming formats like Flash, Quicktime, and Windows Media.
  • Convert video into appropriate sizes for your audience: small-format, large-format, video for iPods, etc.
  • Host video files for related websites, such as uThink blogs.
  • Option to restrict viewing by U of M Internet ID.

What We Don't Do

  • Create video for you.
  • Provide storage suitable for video editing.
  • Write custom scripts.

What You Need to Do

  • Periodically review your assets and remove files you no longer need.
  • Add closed captioning for content on a public web page.
