Postgres Database Hosting
CLA-OIT provides database hosting services using the open source Postgres package for web applications and other basic database needs. Postgres is similar to MySQL in features and limitations. Due to technical limitations and University policy, this service is not appropriate for databases storing legally-protected private data.
Eligibility
University faculty, staff, and graduate students
What We Do
- Provide Postgres databases on a shared server.
- Run nightly database backups.
- Create database.
What We Don't Do
- Provide high availability configurations.
- Provide point-in-time database recovery.
- Provide administrative access to the database instance.
- Permit storage of legally protected data.
What You Need to Do
- Complete and maintain a data storage plan.
- Consider the Dedicated Server option if you anticipate having heavy resource requirements.
- Perform all database programming.
Availability
Networked Systems
24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- Excluding scheduled maintenance.
- Requires reliable network connection and other University infrastructure systems (may be outside of CLA-OIT control).

- Provide funds to purchase server hardware.
